The Ultrafast Optics group at Leibniz University of Hannover in Germany invites applications for the following opening: Doctoral researcher (f/m/d) – Ultrafast Optics / Quantum diffractive Nanoscale Microscopy.

Project background: As part of the QUINS project (Quantum diffractive Nanoscale Microscopy), entangled photons are generated using HHG (High Harmonic Genration). The starting point of our investigations is an optical parametric amplifier with pulse durations in the few cycle regime. With these pulses, the carrier envelope offset (CEO) has a significant influence on the light matter
interaction process and its quantum signatures. Using diffractive and correlation imaging approaches we will explore applications in quantum imaging.

Job description: In this work, therefore you will

  • set up an experiment to generate solid state high harmonics,
  • set up an F-2F interferometer to measure the CEO,
  • carry out CEO measurements,
  • characterize the non-classical light field,
  • and study imaging using entangled photons.

The position: We are looking for a qualified personality in the field of experimental non-linear optics. This includes e.g. the fields of sources of coherent X-rays and state-of-the-art detectors. The willingness to cooperate scientifically with other research groups in physics, engineering is assumed. The position is located in the Quantum Optics Institute in the Ultrafast Laser Group of
Uwe Morgner and Milutin Kovacev. It is limited to three years.

Your profile: MSc in Physics or Electrical Engineering with experience in laser science and/or xray physics as well as excellent scientific knowledge including analytical and experimental skills. Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organizations in Germany. Applicants should provide a motivation letter, a curriculum vitae and a statement of research
interests. The review of incoming applications will start immediately and will continue until a suitable
candidate is identified. We suggest applying by September 2025 to ensure full consideration.
