Scientist or doctoral candidate in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics (23-41-8)

At our Berlin-Charlottenburg site, we are looking to fill the following position in Department 8.4 (Mathematical Modelling and Data Analysis):
Scientist or doctoral candidate in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics
Up to Remuneration Group 14 TVöD Bund ○ Three-year fixed term ○ Full-time (39 hours/week)
Doctoral candidates: Remuneration Group 13 TVöD Bund ○ Three-year fixed term ○ Part-time (33.15 hours/week)

Ihr Aufgabengebiet:

Your tasks:

As part of the collaborative MAIBAI research project being funded by the European Partnership on Metrology (EPM), machine learning (ML) methods pertaining to various problems in mammographic data analysis are to be developed, curated, and tested in terms of quality aspects. For this purpose, suitable real and synthetic mammography datasets are to be created and appropriate metrics for quality assessment developed and used for quantitative comparisons of different AI/ML approaches. It is expected that the achieved project results will contribute to the translation of ML and AI tools into clinical applications.

  • Developing and curating state-of-the-art deep learning models for mammographic data
  • Defining quality requirements with respect to predictive power, robustness, quantification of the uncertainty, and explainability
  • Defining and implementing quality metrics and building benchmark datasets
  • Benchmarking and carrying out quantitative validation studies
  • Presenting and publishing the research results

Ihr Profil:

Your profile:

  • Ideally, you have obtained a doctor’s degree in the field of machine learning or a closely related technical field.
  • You have extensive and current expertise in theoretical and applied ML/AI and statistics.
  • You have experience with methods of explainable ML as well as modern generative models (diffusion models, convolutional neural networks).
  • You possess very good programming skills in Python and relevant deep learning libraries such as Pytorch.
  • You are a strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • You have a very good command of English, both spoken and written.

  • Family friendly: From dedicated parent-child offices to school holiday childcare or the opportunity to bring your child to work (rooming-in), we offer a variety of ways to help you master the family-work balancing act.
  • Inclusion: For people with disabilities, we offer an inclusive corporate culture and a range of integrative programs.
  • Learning opportunities: We want to help you get ahead by offering a wide range of training and development programs to expand and enhance your skills.
  • Health options: Your health is important to us, which is why we offer health promotion and maintenance programs, including workplace sports, a mobile massage service, and back care classes.
  • Canteen: Situated on our park-like campus grounds, our canteen offers a wide variety of culinary choices every day, including vegetarian/vegan options.
  • Work on your doctorate: Our support program for doctoral candidates gives you the opportunity to network with your peers at the national and international levels, for example at trade fairs or scientific conferences. At PTB, you will be able to concentrate on your doctoral work without having to give lectures or supervise exams.

This is important to us:
